Elm long description

Elm is the next-generation map-based social platform for sharing real-world experiences. Stop talking about places—start talking in them. Create geofenced chats anchored to specific Events and dynamic Routes that can be shared with others. Use the built-in uTrip planner to organize everything from simple meetups to complex off-road expeditions.
✨ Key Features That Define Elm
📍 Geofenced & Shareable Chats: Create chats instantly tied to a location on the map. Share them privately with select members or publicly for nearby discovery.
🛣️ Sophisticated Route Builder: Beyond simple lines, build true off-road paths, on-road routes, or connect custom points. Easily place Markers along your journey or on the map.
📅 Event & Location Pinning: Link any chat to a specific location or route (Events) so context is never lost. Related users can join the chat to discuss the trip details immediately.
🛡️ Reputation System (Reps): Earn Reps to influence the visibility and ranking of your public chats on the map. Reps are required for public posting, which helps minimize spam and abuse.
⏱️ Expiration & Control: Shared chats have an expiration date. Once expired, messages lock and the chat gracefully moves down your list. You have the freedom to follow and unfollow public topics at any time.
🗺️ Integrated uTrip Planner: Organize all your chats and events into one cohesive uTrip plan. Easily add, remove, and reorder steps. Supports different transport modes and can auto-route the entire journey for you!

Origin

Hi, my name is Red. I'm the creator of this app.
Elm came from my frustration when using Google Maps dynamic routing because its algorithm often gave me either road that is too narrow for car to drive or path that is too quiet and scary to walk. So back then, I built an app with the ability to save routing results so I can just choose one of them later.
It first came as an app named "Where I Should Go Now" for iOS around 2013, which I then rebuilt for Android as "Lungo" ("Going somewhere" in Javanese) around 2015.
Then around 2020, I built Elm. This time, I built an app that allows users to draw their own routes and have conversations with others. Elm eventually became an app that enables users to chat and create events on the map.
Elm uses Phantasm, a package that I have been developing from the start which enables creation of shapes above a map.
